Dorothy Padgett Whichard

Dorothy Padgett Whichard, age 82, went to be with the Lord on September 9, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Allen Fonce Padgett and Etta Lee Padgett, and the wife of the late D. Eugene Whichard. She was the 3rd of 9 children including brothers, Johnny Ray Padgett (dec), Charlie Padgett (dec), Louis Padgett, Allen Padgett, Jr. (dec) of Washington, NC, and sisters, Shirley Asby (Ed) of Farmville, Ruby Crisp of Chocowinity, NC, Lois (David) of Jacksonville, FL, and Hazel Pickett (dec) of Washington, NC.

Dorothy went to Bath High School and moved with her husband to Roanoke Rapids in 1957. She completed her GED and LPN at HCC in 1966. She worked at Guardian Care Nursing Home until 1974 when she and her husband, Eugene opened the Christian Bookstore on 11th Street in Roanoke Rapids. Shortly thereafter, the store relocated to its present site on Roanoke Avenue. She continued to manage the store until she retired in 1996.

Dorothy led a life of Christian, service as a Sunday School teacher, VBS Director, and missions worker. She was a loving and caring person with a desire that all would know and love the Truth in God's Word.

She leaves behind a son, Philip Ray Whichard (Janie) of Hartsville, SC; and a daughter, Linda Whichard Pardue (Johnny) of Roanoke Rapids. Surviving grandchildren include, Andrea Pardue Al Adwani (Majid) of Kuwait, David P. Whichard (Rebekah) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jennifer Pardue Wells (Jeremy) of Jamestown, NC, Lauren Whichard Bishop (Andrew) of Jackson, WY, and John Scott Pardue (Jennifer) of Roanoke Rapids, NC. Dorothy is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Nadia, and Laila Al Adwani, Kathryn, Evan, and Sullivan Whichard, Kaylee and Grayson Wells, Tyler, Eli, and Landon Smith, and Miles Bishop.

The family will receive condolences at Harvest Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church, West 10th Street, Roanoke Rapids, on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Harvest Temple or Calvary Baptist Church.
